I'll start with laundry soap since this is something I learned from a friend and already have great reviews. She said it works for everything, from delicates to her son's construction gear and gets out everything without ruining a thing... and it's cheaper then liquid detergents. So it's a win win no matter how you look at it.
Recipe
- 1 bar of shaved bar soap (Ivory, ZOTE, Fels-Naptha)
- 1 cup of borax
- 1 cup of washing soda (Oxiclean and Arm and Hammer have this, it's not Baking soda!)
Everything can be found in the supermarket or online. I'm an Amazon fan so when I run out of my normal detergent if I can't find this at Stop and Shop I'll look there. All you do is shave the bar of soap and mix it with the 2 other powders! Some of the recipes I saw online have you boil water and make a gel detergent from these ingredients. That just seems overkill because then you have to store a liquid and all the extra work for no increase in effectiveness. This powder recipe is also good for HE washers because it's low sud. And all you use is 1-2 tablespoons depending on the load.
