The beginning

I've been knitting for a few years now, mostly on and off. But, now that I have known the feeling of trying something new and actually finishing projects (don't worry I still have tons of UFO's) I have been on a good role. So I have decided to start a blog to show my progress for new projects and hopefully keep me going.

My life right now is really busy, and knitting is something that keeps me sane. I am a junior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, studying chemical engineering and environmental science. I hope to work in the power industry, in both improving fuel options that are popular now and creating new technologies in the alternate fuel area. Right now I am doing a major research paper on the viability of using Jatropha plant oil as biodiesel in Haiti. I'm also a rower, and try to be on the water as much as possible. But my happiest moments are sitting on the couch at night de-stressing and getting a few more rows in of whatever my most exciting project is. My roommates make fun of me, but that's only because they are jealous (right?). They are waiting for specific projects I promised them.

The most currant project I am working on is a wool sweater. It is really special to me, because the wool is from Ireland. My boyfriend brought it back as a gift for me when he was touring there with the mens' glee club at school. I definitely knew he was a keeper when he brought me back a huge bag of beautiful purple merino wool. I am trying my first wearable garment. I've done scarves and bags but never a sweater before. It's almost like a shrug so I hope it would be that hard to do. You can find the pattern at knitty.com (Ester). As soon as I have time to take a photo I am going to put one up of what I have so far. Other then the sweater, I have a scarf going, but it's finally getting warm so I might push that far back in my list. I am also working on light leg warmers. And I keep checking out knitpicks.com. I might pick up one of the laptop bag kits, because I want to try colorwork and I've never tried that before.

Last week I finished a felted bag. The wool was given to me as a gift from my mom, I think two christmases ago. It was pretty exciting to finish it. It was my first felted piece and turned out really nice. It's a perfect spring bag. I will get a pick of that up soon also.

Well that's it for now.... hopefully I'll keep up with this and add more later.
