First Steps

My WindowFarm kit arrived yesterday and I finished drinking all my water so it's time to start putting everything together. I started by painting my bottles. Digging out my craft bin I found a ton of white paint and a paint brush and got to work. You need to cover the section of the bottle the roots will be in so you don't burn them. My bottles will need a second coat but right now they are standing tall drying.

This was a great rainy day activity. So today (when hopefully it's not raining) I need to go to Home Depot and get some seeds so I can start my seedlings in the bark pods that came in the kit. You need to start the seeds in these pods so that there is a root system in place before putting them in the clay pellets. I think I'm going to grow a bunch of lettuce, cucumbers, and a bunch of herbs for my first try. I also have to tomato plants I already started from seeds that I will just move to potted containers, two pepper plants (green and jalapeno) that I need to move to bigger pots and at Christmas tree shop I picked up a basil plant, green pepper, and red pepper plant as well as a bunch of pots. Pots and plants are much cheaper at Christmas tree shop then Home Depot so I got what I could there. Hopefully Home Depot will have some lavender because I really want to try growing some and have a nice pot of it to add to my windowsill gardens. Every windowsill in my apartment is going to have something growing on it :)
