I kicked off the weekend by covering my oven in baking soda and letting that sit over night. I think, for my first attempt at cleaning the oven, it went well. I didn't get all the gunk out. However, I didn't have to deal with a badly ventilating apartment and gross chemical fumes. This should probably be a once a year chore instead of a once in a rental chore. Some before and after pictures would have been good...
Also, I organized our shoes and did a little closet seasonal organization. One more thing off the list! And a few more things in the donate box! Plus I was able to get them all in either a hanging organizer or closet so no more taking up bedroom floor space.
I started cleaning the windows but noticed that the screens were getting kind of gross and are starting to come out of their frame. This might be a job for maintenance to fix. The least I can do is clean the sills and windows for them. Cleaning the sills is going to be a job for this weekend. I have been searching pinterest/internet for sill cleaning methods and most likely it will involve some rags, vinegar and a vacuum.
I have been slowly going through the kitchen and throwing stuff out as I clean each drawer. It felt really good to be able to clean off a whole shelf by getting rid of semi-broken unused appliances and random garbage stuff. I also went through all that little stuff that accumulates in the junk drawers and started bagging it. I got out a stack of quart sized bags and started putting things like command strips and batteries into the bags. This really helped to consolidated my junk drawers.
While looking for the best way to clean stuff I got a little lost on pinterest and while I cleaned the kitchen I noticed I have a lot of coffee in the freezer/cabinets. I am horrible at resisting Starbucks sales and always have big plans to make more coffee at home. Also, I have big plans for making my own lotions and scrubs.
Coffee + lotion/scrub ingredients + cleaning out stuff = making coffee scrubs and lotions + less stuff in the craft space
I have some almond oil soaking with some ground coffee for some coffee lotion bars and some coconut oil on order for some really scrumptious scrub cubes. Check out my "Beauty Stuff" board for more ideas.
