Healthy Ways

Thursday morning I completed day 2 of week1 of the C25K program, I'm hoping to continue the Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday schedule because they are days I usually sleep in Foxboro and thus am at home where the treadmills are in the morning and I hate when I sleep in on Saturdays so this will hopefully get me up and going. After finding the C25K program I shared it on Rav in the Bust Line group and Staying on the Ball, both groups now have people following it with me, plus someone told me there is a C25K group! So I have lots of support and motivation, this is why Rav is just a great community for all things.

My new crafty pursuit is also a bit environmental. I'm not a perfect environmentalist, I don't recycle as much stuff as I could or always eat unprocessed/organic food, I buy non-organic/sweat shops clothes, and go the cheap route a lot of the time. But I try to do what I can like car pool whenever possible. Trying to think of a longer list is actually kind of hard, because of that I want to make a few more changes in my life to cut my environmental impact. I realize they are small things but like running if I can start small then I can always keep building.

In the bathroom:
- Cut down on shower time, I don't take super long showers but hey they could always be shorter. Start buying bath products made with less packaging and more natural ingredients, or if I get super motivated make as many as I can myself.

Household:
- Start looking up natural/homemade cleaning agents. I have a friend's mom that swears by a laundry detergent blend she makes herself that is all powders. That would cut down on the plastic bottles plus the chemical cleaners and might even help my clothes last longer. I'll definitely start posting different recipes as I find them. Use the dryer less. Turn off lights more, I forget a lot and get lazy.

Shopping:
- I'm really enjoying the plarn bag I'm making, so maybe I'll start asking friends outside of my knitting group for any of their plastic bags to make into plarn, plus stop using plastic bags myself. I got a few reusable shopping bags from my aunt that I need to remember to use. Along with eating healthier I'm trying to buy less food in general, no more crappy empty processed foods and hopefully more organic whole foods.

Ok now my biggest and hopefully most fun and crafty adventure:
Hydroponic window gardening! I love growing plants but have been living in apartments with no outdoor space for the past 5 years. I found the Windowfarms group and am going to see if I can use my great big windows for a simple garden. I have a few plants for herbs but I would love to get lettuce going since that's the one thing I can go through before it goes bad. I think it will be a lot of fun putting together the bottles and system as well as keeping it going. I feel like I really need to start doing something more hands on. I'm an engineer who sits in an office all day going crazy. I really want to be designing and building something useful. I'm debating buying their basic kit which comes with all the pumps and tubes but not the bottles or trying to start from scratch myself at Home Depot. My first time out I'll probably be better off getting their kit and then modifying it based on my experiences. Wish me luck!
