The answer obviously is always to knit, but more specifically for whom?
Every year I go through phases of should I or shouldn't I knit some holiday gifts. I'm on the knit on phase because I'm starting to think about what to get people so I have a plan. I can never think of anything to buy people, so I think I'll just knit them something. Then at least it's personal and work went into it. Last year I "made" my brother a hat (it still needs to be seamed and is sitting in my closet, he got some nice micro-brewed beer instead) and my mom got only a few of the planned many coasters to be used with her new living room furniture. Half of my planned knitted gifts fell through and I ended up having to buy stuff instead.
Do I learn from my past mistakes or just try again?
Pros:
I have a friend from high school that says she still uses the scarf I knit her and loves it, how can you beat that?
Gift knitting is also a chance to knit patterns I wouldn't make for myself
The best pro: buying more yarn guilt free!
Cons:
Stress knitting is not fun
Back up plans are needed
More WIPs then the too many I already have
No selfish knitting
I think I'll start small. Little monster ornaments and mittens. I still have the hat for my brother, my mom deserves the fingerless I promised her plus more so I will still have to buy her something. My dad is impossible to buy for but I think he would like an ornament, they collect them. My sister is a twilight fan and I really want to make a pair of Bella Mitts but I'm not a big mitten person so I get to try the pattern. J, I don't think will get any hand knits this year, maybe some day he will get socks but I don't mess with the knitting/BF curse more then dragon he got, no wearables! J gets his mom gift cards every year so I might make an ornament to go with that.
