Jeremey and I fared very well in the Nemo "blizzard." We never lost power and didn't need to go anywhere so the crappy roads didn't effect us. We did have some fun shoveling out our cars on Sunday, and the apartment complex's parking lots are a mess. But, it was a great weekend to be snowed in to knit. I finished one Monkey sock and one Love sock. I also worked on a felted pouch and started my Fiddlehead mitts. After making a successful intarsia heart on my Love socks, I have the colorwork bug and can't wait to work on some two color stranded designs.
I had a rocky start with my Fiddlehead mitts. While trying to wind the three skeins of yarn, I broke my ball winder :(. So I have one cake of Berroco Alpaca in a natural color and two balls, one each of Malibrigo Worsted in a funky moss green to teal colorway and ShiBui Alpaca DK in a mossy green. These are going to be some really soft warm mitts, I'm happy I stopped into Knit Whit when I was up in Portland. As per the directions I cast on with a size 3 needle, worked an inch then checked my gauge to find out it was too big. Then I cast on with a size 2 and viola! After an inch the gauge is looking good. At least this gave me a chance to practice the I-cord cast on and refresh my memory of the Philosopher of Wool's stranded technique. This is the first project I've done that called for this cast on and I love it! It's so cool how you can cast on and get stitches going perpendicular. Jeremey did not understand how cool that was.
My Sunday flight was cancelled but we were able to reschedule for Monday night, heading out in a few minutes to catch it. This should still give us enough time to get our work done on site and still come home Thursday. I'm really excited for my first business trip and of course nervous. But I should be fine, I was able to pack everything in my laptop bag and carry on. Stuffing yarn into the last little spaces. Lets see if I can finish the partners to my Love and Monkey socks. Since I finished one Monkey sock, I can knit the other without worrying if it will fit Jeremey. On top of fly/lay over time, I also have time in the car because the person I"m traveling with is driving!
