Whirl wind of a month

I started 2014 off with a bang.  It was a crazy month for me and my knitting. I started a few blog posts but nothing I was typing was really giving justice to what was going on.

After a few weeks off of work and trips home and to Maine for Christmas, I went back to the grind.  I spent another few weeks in Texas.  It was finally warmer down there then up here and I was able to enjoy it a little bit more.  The trip had a far more relaxing pace then my last one and it showed in the amount of knitting I was able to get done. I started my Tardis sock and Kitefish shawl, worked a bit more on my twisted tweed sock.  It helped that I spent the weekend I was there hanging out at Park Ave Yarns.  The wonderful women there welcomed me in and I was able to de-stress and laugh a bunch.

I love visiting new yarn stores and groups because everyone focuses on different things.  Either designers, styles or certain types of yarn every group finds a different section of the knitting world and no one person can know it all.  In Texas, one of their favorite current patterns is the Cowgirl Cowl and they have a great love for Madelinetosh.  So before I had even left the state I had put an order in to Jimmy Beans Wool for some Tosh Vintage and had the pattern downloaded on my iPad.  Knitters are some of the best sales people ever.

I picked up some buttons at In the Loop.  I just have to block it and put the buttons on and I'll be done! I can't wait to post the finished cowl because I think it really completes what the month was for me.  The color is a striking teal and the cowl is the perfect shape for my new top half.  It's inspired/collected from a new love (TX LYS), my old and always love (LYS) and some really happy inducing yarn.  It will be great for wearing to work.

I'm on a giant cowl/shawl kick right now. It started with finishing my Batkus and lead to finishing a Kitefish shawl, French Cancan and Lonely Tree shawl, plus the Cowgirl Cowl.  And here I thought this was going to be sweater season.

Fear not! I am getting ready to start my first CustomFit sweater.  I have some really soft and cuddly Cash Vero that I got discounted from Webs.  It's light but warm and snuggle inducing in a soft lavender color.  I think I'm going to do a relaxed fit wide v-neck sweater with 3/4 length sleeves.  I'm hoping for a classy sweatshirt-like feel.  Since it will be my first sweater in a while and I reaallllly want something that is going to fit, I figure something that's meant to be a little bigger is a good plan.

Maybe my next post will just be a collage of finished projects.
